For more than 30 years, innovative banking executive and entrepreneur Ken Poteet has been bringing fresh ideas and astute leadership to the financial services industry with great success. Poteet now is focusing that extensive experience and expertise on a new financial institution – M1 Bank.
Ken began his banking career shortly after graduating from Southern Methodist University’s Graduate School of Banking and from Missouri State University, where he earned a degree in computer information systems with a minor in marketing. He started in banking with one multibank holding company and one single-bank holding company in addition to consulting for the group’s captive data center.
Two years later, in 1988, Ken became the CEO and a director of First Midwest Bank of Dexter. For the next five years, his role in the organization expanded as he became the largest producer, resulting in the ultimate responsibility for the overall direction and profitability of the two holding companies and four unit banks.
Soon after selling his interest in the Midwest Group, Ken became the founder and chairman of Sterling Bancshares, Inc. and Sterling Bank. His De Novo Bank business model centered on his expertise in affordable housing programs derived from the Tax Reform Act of 1986, which was made permanent in 1993.
Despite the economic downturn, Ken steered Sterling Bank to profitability in only its third month of operation. Additionally, the charter location was recognized as one of the top six architectural designs of a community bank in the nation by ICBA Independent Banker Magazine.
Ken’s leadership ensured that in a few short years since it was chartered, Sterling Bank was recognized as the highest performing financial institution in the State of Missouri #1, – and #17 in the Nation – by SNL Financial in 2014. Mr. Poteet resigned his positions as Founder/Chairman and CEO to pursue other interests in September 2016. As of September 30, 2016, Sterling Bank’s Total Assets exceeded $1.4 billion with more than $1.5 billion in loans under management.
Within the industry, Ken’s leadership and vision resulted in a number of notable achievements, including: The De Novo and success of Sterling Bancshares, Inc/Sterling Bank; financing of the first affordable housing development in Texas under the HOME (Home Investment Partnership Program); the first affordable housing historic rehab in the 9th Ward of New Orleans post-Katrina; and the financing of the first alternative energy powered affordable housing development in the country. He has initiated more than $3.5 billion in LIHTC and LIHTC-related loans and consulted for the sale/purchase of LIHTC and historic tax credits without a single default or recapture.
Those significant experiences led Ken to yet another new and unique mission and purpose with the formation of M1 Bank and M1 Bancshares, Inc, the holding company and sole shareholder of M1 Bank.

With more than 30 years of innovative banking industry experience, M1 Bank President David M. Bequeaith is a recognized leader in the field and brings a unique perspective to both the Bank as well as M1 Bancshares, Inc., for which he serves on the Board of Directors. As President, David leads M1 Bank’s risk governance function, focusing on enterprise risk, particularly the expanding loan portfolio and operational execution to support the long-term success of the bank.
Prior to joining M1 Bank, David was President and Managing Director of TIB-Bequeaith Banking Solutions in Dallas. This $4 million strategic consulting firm provided credit management/loan review and compliance consulting, audit, and training services to more than 100 financial institutions with a combined asset base of over $100 Billion. David founded Bequeaith Banking Solutions in Kansas City and grew that start-up company to a portfolio of 40 clients and $1.4 million in annual revenue in a few short years before acquisition by TIB.
David’s unique perspective of the banking industry comes from his experience as a former bank examiner, bank governance professional and leader for the risk service functions of two large accounting and consulting firms. He provided expert level services to a diverse range of financial services companies, from community banks with pending regulatory actions to larger projects such as well-publicized Bank Secrecy Act formal actions.
A respected specialist in the Bank Secrecy Act, Anti-Money Laundering and related issues, David created the Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA) Bank Secrecy Act/Anti-Money Laundering Certification program (BSAP) as well as its longstanding Community Bank Compliance Officer Certification program (CCBCO). In his role as an ICBA Certification/Curriculum Designer & Trainer he has trained more than 10,000 bankers, examiners, accountants, and consultants in a variety of technical disciplines. Beyond his work with ICBA, David was also a faculty contributor to the Texas Tech University Graduate School of Banking.
David earned his undergraduate Business Administration degree from Central College in Pella, Iowa and a Master of Business Administration from Keller Graduate School of Management. He is a Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) from The Institute of Certified Bankers and has earned the Credit Risk Certification (CRC) Professional designation from The Risk Management Association. Director & Chief Credit Officer
A founding member of M1 Bank, McLane Poteet is chief credit officer focused on managing the bank’s credit function while implementing its credit philosophy and strategic model. He also serves on the board of directors for the bank and holding company M1 Bancshares, Inc., governing all aspects of bank management and strategic planning.
McLane gained extensive banking experience in his previous role at a financial institution developing and implementing lending platforms and procedures to meet the needs of the affordable housing, renewable energy, and historic tax credit markets. He played an integral role in building this high performing financial institution with assets in excess of $1.4 billion.
A graduate of the University of Missouri, McLane earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a dual-emphasis major in finance & banking and real estate, along with a minor in economics. In 2013, he received his Juris Doctor from Saint Louis University School of Law.Email
Corey K. Poteet
Director & Senior Vice President
A founding member of M1 Bank, Corey Poteet serves on the Board of Directors for the bank and holding company M1 Bancshares, Inc., governing all aspects of bank management and strategic planning. Corey’s main role is focused on developing valuable relationships nationwide in the affordable housing, renewable energy, and historic tax credit arenas. Additionally, Corey is responsible for managing and implementing structures, platforms, and procedures within those particular banking areas.
As a veteran with more than ten years of experience in the banking industry, Corey was part of a central Missouri bank where he served as vice president. In that role, he supervised retail and commercial lending, handled underwriting and evaluating credit, managed loan review, developed branch profitability reports, and assisted with investment portfolio management. Prior to launching M1 Bank, Corey was senior vice president for a high performing bank in the St. Louis area, where he specialized in LIHTC, Renewable Energy Tax Credits and Commercial Lending. Trent Hillis, CPA
Director & Chief Financial Officer
A founding member of M1 Bank, Trent Hillis is chief financial officer focused on strategic management of all finance and accounting functions, including financial reporting for both the bank and M1 Bancshares, Inc., the bank holding company. He also serves on the board of directors for both companies as well as the loan, and asset-liability management committees.
Before joining M1, Trent served as an accounting advisor for the tax credit syndication industry by underwriting tax credit equity investments, focusing on GAAP financial statement impact for tax equity investors. He provided strategic direction to Fortune 500 companies, regional banks, and community banks on regulatory guidance and accounting/tax treatment of tax equity investments, with a focus on renewable energy tax credits. Trent also served as vice president of finance for a high performing bank with more than $1.4 billion in assets, as well as an auditor for PricewaterhouseCoopers.
A Certified Public Accountant, Trent earned undergraduate and graduate degrees with highest honors in accounting from the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, Miss. While a graduate student, he gained valuable experience studying international accounting in London. Trent also was a college athlete, playing NCAA Division I golf and earning accolades as a two-time recipient of the University of Southern Mississippi Golf team’s Payne Stewart Award.Email
Chief Operating Officer
Supporting M1 Bank’s growth and business opportunities is the primary role of COO David Hill. A member of the board of directors, David ensures the board direction is being carried out operationally in day-to-day operations including: ensuring the highest quality client care and service; honoring existing client relationships; assisting and supporting the creation of new bank products and services; and regulatory compliance. Additionally, he is the bank’s information technology manager, as well as the regulatory compliance and risk manager.
David has been committed to distinctive client service since he began his banking career in 2004. Beginning as a teller, he quickly rose through the ranks gaining experience in every bank division and most recently was president and CEO of a central Missouri bank.Email
Senior Vice President
A banking industry veteran, Robert McLain has 40 years of experience guiding the investments of financial institutions. At M1 Bank, Robert is focused on business development, relationship development with other financial institutions to nurture participation loan partner collaborations, and finding opportunities for the bank in affordable housing. He also serves on M1’s loan and large credit committees.
Before joining M1, Robert worked with financial institutions around the country providing strategic direction with investment portfolio management, asset-liability management, employee 401k planning and management, and cost-cutting to help increase overall profitability. He is the founder of the FIN Club, a group of 65 experienced bankers sharing ideas regarding banking strategy and financial legislation.
Robert has an associate degree in banking and finance. He also served as an instructor teaching banking professionals investment portfolio management, asset-liability management, and qualification for Series 7 representative.Email
Senior Vice President - Client Services
As Global Customer Service Manager at M1 Bank, Nick Clark is the ambassador of the bank’s priority relationships, focused on serving needs and nurturing lasting, long-term relationships that meet both customer goals and bank goals. He also serves as the Clayton branch manager for M1 Bank. Nick has been in the financial services industry for nearly ten years and has held multiple roles in the banking world, rising quickly through the ranks with his expertise and exemplary customer service skills. He most recently was branch manager/loan officer for a $1 billion mid-size Illinois bank, and he also has experience with a large national financial services organization.

Senior Vice President
As a loan officer and manager of loan processing, including funding, collateral management, and information requests, Hope Hillis is the face of M1 Bank for many. Her commitment to and experience with nurturing clients ensures that M1 loan customers receive impeccable personal service. Hope also serves on M1’s loan and large credit committees.
Hope began her banking career in 2011 and quickly rose to become vice president of loan administration at a high performing St. Louis bank with assets in excess of $1.4 billion. While there, Hope managed all aspects of the loan relationship for clients, handling loan documentation analysis and preparation, borrower information compilation and analysis, and review and quality control of loan files and documents. She is a graduate of Missouri State University, where she earned a degree in business with a minor in economics.Email

With a keen sense of organization, Olivia Hillis handles M1 Bank’s technical operations, supervising the back-office operations of the entire bank. Additionally, she is the primary representative of regulatory compliance and risk management, ensuring the bank is complying with all banking industry regulations.
Olivia gained experience in the banking industry through her previous role as part of a high-performance financial institution focused on operations, financial analysis, and the financial needs of clients. Vice President – Client Services
Attention to detail and exemplary client service are the hallmarks of Hattie Dazey, M1 Bank‘s wire department manager, accounting representative, and accounts payable manager. She is focused on taking care of client banking needs and maintaining excellent relationships with all M1 deposit clients, ensuring that clients have the service and support they need to achieve their short- and long-term banking goals. Hattie also serves as secretary of the M1 Bank board, M1 Bancshares, Inc., board, and the asset-liability management committee.
Before joining M1 Bank, Hattie applied her legendary attention to detail skills to the management of two businesses in Van Buren, Mo. She also has extensive experience in customer service, bookkeeping, financial analysis, project management, and medical coding. Hattie is a graduate of Cox College in Springfield, Mo.
Vice President - Client Services
With nearly 30 years of client management experience, Julia Connors is well versed in taking care of customer needs and exceeding their expectations. Julia has worked in the investment departments of two local banks, managing operational functions and coordinating service needs for customers with great success. She brings the same attention to detail and anticipation of needs and solutions to her work with individual clients at M1 Bank, while also serving as the Human Resources and employee benefits representative for the bank.

M1 Ministries Executive Director
As the Marketing & Community Outreach Director for M1 Bank, Stephanie Bahn Poteet supports M1’s innovative purpose-driven culture of Banking on a Mission through collaborations with local charities committed to supporting at-risk children, the arts, and veterans. She also creates awareness of and promotes M1 Bank’s brand promise to help address the low to moderate income housing and renewable energy needs of communities across America. Additionally, Stephanie directs the marketing activities of M1 Bank, including the promotion of their competitive high-yield premium money market and deposit accounts to meet strong loan demand and cultivate relationships nationwide.
A graduate of the University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn., where she earned a degree in art history and was part of the equestrian team, Stephanie also studied at the University of Oxford, England and Trinity College in Dublin. She worked as a facilitator with Sotheby’s in New York advising clients interested in purchasing unique commissioned pieces to accompany their corporate or residential real estate transactions. Additionally, Stephanie earned accreditations in health & wellness nutritional coaching, interventional & longevity nutrition, and health counseling through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. Prior to joining M1 Bank, she was a marketing/public relations manager for SAB LLC, an independent marketing company specializing in promotional events with a philanthropic component. Her clients at SAB included: Continental Title Company, Sterling Bank, and the Anthropedia Foundation. Stephanie’s other professional experience includes serving in business development with Peoples National Bank in St. Louis, as a residential real estate agent at Dielmann Sotheby’s International Realty/JMSB Realty, and as a commercial broker/transaction coordinator with Stephen F. Bahn Commercial Real Estate Services.
Stephanie and her husband Ken Poteet have five children, with two – London and Wynston – still living at home along with a menagerie of pets that include dogs, birds, fish, and horses. They are committed to bringing glory to the Lord and growing His Kingdom through outreach and missions work around the world. Among her family’s many outreach activities are mission trips to Honduras and Guatemala; volunteer work with Compassion International, Christians United for Israel, and the Little Bit Foundation; and support for Outside the Gates, One Heart Ministries, Friends of Zion, and the American Center for Law and Justice. Stephanie and Ken are longtime friends of famed musician Brian Owens and support his L.I.F.E. Arts ministry in many ways, including a recent donation of a 17,000-sq. ft. building adjacent to the University of Missouri-St. Louis to house the first-ever L.I.F.E. With a degree in accounting from the University of Arkansas and valuable experience as a senior auditor at Deloitte & Touche, Michael Griggs focuses on data at M1 Bank to analyze loan portfolios, credit analysis, and relationship management. He also serves on the Loan and Large Credit committees for M1.

Vice President - Lending
Focused on loan portfolio management and loan reporting and monitoring, Dalton Abert analyzes individual loan relationships and credit as well as underwriting relationships for M1 Bank. Dalton studies loan portfolios from a broader standpoint, reviewing and analyzing such facts as risk, region, and demographics to balance full loan portfolios. Dalton is a member of M1 Bank’s Loan and Large Credit committees.
An Illinois native, Dalton earned an undergraduate degree in Finance from the University of Missouri and an MBA from Maryville University. Before joining M1, Dalton served as a Financial Relationship Senior Consultant at Regions Bank.Email
